BCS XI kicked off the 2013 season at home to Analog on April 6th. The newly promoted home team had defeated Analog - last year's 4th-place finishers in Division 2 - in the 2012 McKenzie Cup by a narrow 3-2 margin. This year's opener was a well-fought match, with the visitors eventually triumphing 4-2, scoring the final goal with the last kick of the game.
As the match started, both sides showed signs of early-season rust. The windy conditions made passing difficult, but the home side eventually gained a foothold and opened the scoring. Paul created enough space for himself on the right wing to whip in a cross, which Fran guided home with an expert header to put BCS up 1-0.
The XI nearly went 2-0 up when Joe received a through-ball and was 1v1 with the keeper. However the ball was a bit stuck under his feet and before he could dig it out he rolled his ankle severely; which was a bit loss for the rest of the match. It didn't take the visitors long to respond, however, with their strikers taking advantage of the conditions and some sloppy BCS defending to score two goals in a five-minute stretch and go into halftime up 2-1.

BCS responded positively in the second half to score a magnificent equalizer. Marco threaded a pass from the right wing into Fran at the top of the box, who flicked on for Pete to fire home at full stride. Unfortunately this goal wasn't enough, as Analog found a third goal midway through the half. BCS pushed up the field and had several decent chances to equalize, but couldn't find a third goal of their own. Eventually, after pulling a defender for an attacker and with everyone pushed up field, BCS were caught out in the 90th minute for Analog's fourth goal, which sealed the victory.
BCS looks to bounce back next Saturday with a match against Kendall Wanderers B, also at Dilboy Stadium in Somerville.
